Farmers are invited to tour BCG’s Nhill research site and take part in a spray application masterclass being delivered by spray consultant Craig Day on Thursday, October 8.
The event, which is being run in conjunction with Agritech Rural/Westech Ag, will run from 1pm to 5.30pm and include facilitated discussions about applied agricultural research being conducted in the Nhill region.
Field trials to be toured are investigating how vetch and beans respond to phosphorus and other micro-nutrients and how wheat, barley and canola varieties have performed this season. Other research at the site is looking at a range of risk management strategies and comparing the competitiveness of a range of barley varieties.
Spray consultant Craig Day (Spray Safe and Save) will host a spray application masterclass covering: the importance of water quality; fenceline spraying; spraying into heavy stubble loads; and making a spray plan.
BCG extension manager Ciara Cullen said Mr Day visited growers in Nhill last year and is returning by popular demand.
“Craig is an excellent presenter,” she said.
“He manages to remove some of the complexity around herbicide application and has some great tips on ensuring spraying is more effective.”
Growers will have an opportunity to mingle with Mr Day, BCG researchers and Agritech Rural/Westech Ag staff at the end of the event over a barbecue dinner and refreshments.
This event is free for BCG members and Agritch Rural/Westech Ag clients and just $30 for others.
All are welcome.
