Seeder demonstration day at Inverleigh

As part of the GRDC stubble initiative, Southern Farming Systems (SFS) will be holding an on-farm Seeder Demonstration Day at Inverleigh on Friday, June 19.

The day will start at 9am with demonstration strips being sown and discussed by the owners of 14 different seeding machines, each demonstrating their benefits and suitability to high rainfall zone (HRZ) conditions.

Included in the line-up are: Seed Hawk, Vaderstad Rapid, Flexicoil, Baker Cross Slot, Boss, John Deere, Horwood Bagshaw, Great Plains, Serafin Semeato, Amazone and more. Also on display will be the newly released New Holland T8.435 SmartTrax tractor, making one of its first operational appearances in Australia.

SFS projects coordinator Paul Breust said he was delighted with the support being thrown behind the SFS Geelong Branch / GRDC Stubble Project seeder day.

“We, via very generous cooperation from growers and machinery agents, and supported through the GRDC stubble initiative, have put together a great line up of seeders to demo on the day,” he said.

“Each seeder will sow strips using the full length of the paddock, which will allow us to harvest and collect yield data on each one.

“We will also measure establishment, seed depth, early dry matter production via UAV NDVI, head counts and final yields”.

The demonstration day is being undertaken in conjunction with the Grains Research & Development Corporation (GRDC) funded project, Maintaining Profitable Farming Systems with Retained Stubble in Victoria and Tasmania, which is a collaboration project with BCG, ICC and VNTFA, as part of the GRDC Maintaining profitable farming systems with retained stubble initiative.

The day is free and open to SFS members, sponsors and the general public. BBQ lunch is provided.
